This weekend at the #219 is local act the Organics on Friday the 16th, tix $5 for members & $10 guests of members. On Saturday, July 17, rock out like you wish you had a brain (I’m trying here, sometimes it’s gold, other times, not so much) to Buddy and the Scarecrow. $25 for this show and both nights run 4-8 p.m. rclegionevent.com to secure your spot.

The Rogue Music Festival has been reimagined with five weekends in five venues and on July 24 it kicks off at our local little legion. Tongue N’ Groove brings together some of the Sunshine Coast’s finest musicians in a genre that stretches from Bohemian funk/jazz to Eastern European soul to circussy waltzes with some blues thrown in. With Sarah Noni on vocals, Budge Schachte on guitar and bass, Graham Ord on sax and flute, Anna Lumiere on keys and accordion and John Rule on drums, it is an all-star lineup

Fer de Lance fills out the evening with new folk roots songs crafted by Janet Panic, her husband/bassist Will Mason and others, making it a not to be missed event. Tickets for this killer double header are at roguefest.ca/rogue-fest-reimagined-2021.

Slow Sundays, in our gazebo behind the library, has scheduled for July 18: 12:30 is classical guitar by John Farmer, 1 p.m. is The Corner Table Trio, and at 2 it’s Bigger Bits of String Band with Mark Lebell, Kaia Nielsen, Ken Dalgleish and Graham Walker. Bring a chair and your open ears.

Beth Hawthorn has teamed up with fellow artist Natalie Grambow to offer a special outdoor workshop on her place at 1551 Lockyer Rd. on Sunday, July 25. Get ready to create a one-of-a-kind shawl using Indigo dye with traditional Shibori Japanese tie dye and get some newly legalized socializing. Shawl, dye and locally sourced light food and drinks will be supplied, and a cash bar is available. Grambow will be leading this fun taster afternoon and introduce you to the world of Indigo to make a beautiful project shawl, which you will be able to create and take home with you at the end of the afternoon. 1-4 pm. Maximum 30 tickets at $80 plus GST each. Because the URL is long, please search eventbrite.ca for “indigo Roberts Creek” to find your tickets. Bring your own mug for tea or water and an apron or work clothes because ... dye! Suitable for beginners 16 +, all current COVID regulations will be followed.

Re: last weeks’ column. I have had many reactions from members of the community on my reporting of the issues at the Mandela. Bringing awareness sure got the Gumboot Nation talking and those who impinge upon the peaceful enjoyment of others know that some of their actions have had negative consequences for their fellow citizens. I hope we can take a step toward living in harmony, ’cause we are all in this together.
