The news you need to know! Yes Regina, Rosie the ginger cat you see around the school has a loving home and, yes, she thinks the schoolyard is hers. She has been known to go through the Grade 1 window to claim the class as her own, to the delight of the young students.
The Legacy Garden, the beautiful setting around our new pavilion just below the school, is looking fantastic. Hats off to Larry Popowich of Periplum Garden Design & Construction, Small World Excavating owner Jason Hertz, volunteers Andy Sloss of Beach Botanica, Lehigh, Swanson’s, D Kennedy Trucking, and others, who played a role in creating this special communal space. And I was today years old when I learned how to turn a wheelbarrow into a (very comfortable) chair.
Over at the One Tiny Farm, the Roberts Creek Children’s Garden is growing strong, thanks to the Sunshine Coast Foundation and One Straw Society. Yay!
Looking for bit of centrally located work? The General Store is looking for weekend help. Head over and ask about it, maybe you will be a good fit.
News from your RCCA: Slugs are bad this year. Hand-pick at dawn and dusk. Mason bees are buzzing. Somebody (OK, it was Denise Woodley) has donated a permanent bright red beach fire putter-outer bucket at Varco Beach, and that is a snazzy and fabulous idea that we would love to see at all the local beaches. The public piano for the heart of the Creek has now morphed into a handmade marimba made by Graham Walker. Repairs to the library’s exterior are nearly finished and it’s getting repainted by born and bred Creeker Izora Goodwin. It will get new gutters after that and it will be in tip-top shape!
I hope you haven’t missed Mother’s Day but here is a chance to add to it (or redeem yourself). Come and make a glass heart for Mom! Book two spots and make one for her and one with her! No experience necessary.
If you pass by the firehall this weekend, you are likely to hear the sound of breaking glass, as our volunteer firefighters train up to the next level with a course entitled Vehicle Rescue 2 (AKA: Auto Ex II). Geared toward adding to skills gained in last month’s Vehicle Rescue 1, these two days will put more tools in the box so the RCVFD may serve our community better. This may be a good time to remind the public that the firehall parking area is for firefighter personal only and when you come up the hill and stop at the light, do not block the entrance, lest you delay the emergency response by these dedicated men and women.
