Knitting a Community to hold open house

Gibsons and District Public Library

Knitting a Community is a thriving weekly group that is always welcoming to new participants. Every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon, knitters of all levels gather at the Gibsons Public Library to work on projects that will be donated to various charitable organizations. Blankets, baby hats, sweaters and twiddle muffs are just some of the amazing creations this group donates.

Twiddle muffs are made as hand warmers that have various little safe buttons and other features inside to fidget or play with: they are proven to provide immense comfort to people living with dementia or autism who may need to fiddle.

Knitting a Community is holding an open house on Tuesday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to noon for anyone to come in and have a look at what the group is all about. Come for a cup of coffee or tea, learn to cast on, and have a look at the beautiful creations.

In addition to Knitting a Community, there are many other ongoing free programs at the library: conversational language groups in Japanese, Spanish and French; writers’ groups; Linux workshops and more. For information of any GDPL programs, contact Heather Evans-Cullen, community outreach coordinator, at 604-886-2130.
