Q: Is the Resource Centre still accepting used tech-device donations, like my old cell phone?

A: Yes! In fact, we would very much like you to donate your old devices (functional cell phones, tablets, laptops), as our supplies for our Computer Kindness Corner (CKC) are running low, which means waitlists are longer than we would like for people looking to benefit from our program.

If you haven’t heard of our Computer Kindness Corner, it’s a place people in need who are looking to get a new-to-them refurbished device – either a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop – can request one. The Resource Centre’s pilot program began this year to support and enhance the long-running Sunshine Coast Computer Kindness program which has been connecting folks with new-to-them devices for years. By providing a physical pickup and drop-off location at the Resource Centre office via our CKC, we wanted to see how this could build on the program established by the Sunshine Coast Computer Kindness program. It turned out it has been hugely popular.

So, if you have a working device you don’t use anymore, please, please donate it/them to our CKC at the Resource Centre! Your donation is what keeps the program running, and will do an important part in contributing to digital equity on the Coast. That is, everyone is deserving of the technology that will help them participate in the connection, services and programs they need. (Please note: You can also connect directly with the Sunshine Coast Computer Kindness Program at their own contact information below, for certain donations and requests.)

If you’d like to donate a device to our CKC at the Resource Centre: 1) Devices must be in good working order (or they will be returned to you); 2) You must have done a factory reset on the device; 3) There must be the relevant power cords / adapters along with your donation; and 4) If it’s an Apple device like an iPhone, you must be logged out of your Apple ID. As well, when you come in, you will need to fill out a donation consent form.

For any questions about donations, requests or the CKC in general at the Resource Centre, email us [email protected] or call our office at 604-885-4088.
