Now we’ve had a proper winter, it’s time to fall in love with gardening again. Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden has two exceptional speakers to reawaken your green thumb, Saturday, Feb. 18, and Sunday, Feb. 19, each at 2 p.m.
UBC’s vivacious Egan Davis will pique our interest in Creating Ecological Plant Communities in the Garden on Saturday. On Sunday, accomplished organics instructor Catherine Dale will present All About Compost, a vital part of gardening. Both speakers are returning after sell-out audiences at past visits to the Botanical Garden.
In his presentation, Davis will explain new practices in growing with nature in mind, to help us consider our gardens within our environment. He won the BC Horticultural Educator of the Year Award last fall; his enthusiasm is infectious! Advance tickets recommended, $15 for Garden members, $20 for non-members, with memberships available at the door. Call 604-740-3969 to pay by credit card.
Dale is an instructor at Gaia College, giving many courses on organic gardening methods throughout Metro Vancouver. She will include basics for beginners and tips for more experienced composters, so bring your questions. Admission is $5 for members, $10 for non-members.
The Garden is at 5941 Mason Rd. in West Sechelt. See www.coastbotanicalgarden.org for details.
