Once more into the breach! Our Sunshine Coast Streamkeepers are clippin’ an’ a rippin’ just across the street from the little legion on June 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They have been hosting monthly invasive plant removal events for almost two years now and are workin’ it on Malcolm, as well as Roberts creeks, removing invasives in the riparian zone, to help these areas return to their native state. Need more information? Check out facebook.com/sunshinecoaststreamkeepers or sunshinecoaststreamkeepers.com.
With several residents of Roberts Creek in at least two of the bands (OK, it’s that talented Ord clan) and the fact is a virtual event this year, I feel I can blow their horn (in a jazzy fashion). The 25th Annual Gibsons Landing Jazzfest is a free concert! Get your fix on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube or www.coastjazz.com next Sunday, June 27 and beyond. You can donate to win fabulous prizes as well!
Now for a spot of history. Dating back to at least 1508 in Europe, modern Father’s Day was founded in Spokane, Wash. by Sonora Smart Dodd; its first observance was June 19, 1910, in celebration of her Civil War veteran father, William Jackson Smart, who raised six children alone. My son has hinted at a gift of Beachcombers coffee, both a welcome gift and in support of local enterprise.
