March 8 marks the International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias – A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
To recognize 2022 IWD, the Sunshine Coast Labour Council is focusing two local campaigns as a public engagement opportunity.
We are going to showcase 5 heroines in our labour community on the special IWD featured edition on the coast reporter. This is a way to recognize many of our frontline female workers in healthcare, education, public infrastructure sectors who have been working tirelessly for the last two years.
IWD is a good day to honour their dedication and compassion to serve our community.
Another campaign is the REDress Project. By creating and distributing Red Dress pins, SCLC is raising awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women across Canada – the red dress pin represents bringing a dialogue about racialized violent crimes against Indigenous women.
If you are interested in getting involved in making pins, please contact to us or visit Sunshine Coast Labour Council Facebook page to find more information about the IWD campaign.
