The first Sunshine Coast Water Walk is taking place on March 24 at Dougall Park in Gibsons. “You’re invited to bring as much water as you think you can carry and walk through Lower Gibsons with us to symbolize the walk for water that women and children in Africa do every day,” organizers of the event said in a release.

Hosted by the Roll a Hippo Foundation, the Rotary Club of Gibsons, and Coast TV, the walk will be by donation, and all donations will go towards the Hippo Roller, a redesigned wheelbarrow that allows women and children in Africa to carry more water, in less time.

Walkers are encouraged to show up at Dougall Park at 10 a.m. with water they’ve brought from home. The walk will begin at 10:30 a.m.

“We’ll parade through the streets of Lower Gibsons carrying as much water as we can, then head back to Dougall Park, where there will be a screening of a special program Coast TV has created on the Hippo Roller,” the release said.
