Harbour Highlights

Pender Harbour & Egmont

Starting this Saturday June 29, The Harbour Gallery will be open every day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the summer. The gallery located in the Cultural Centre beside the Reading Centre and School of Music is a little gem and should be included when you are showing your visitors around our harbour. It is accessible up the shady steps from the dock, at Millennium Park. This cozy, welcoming gallery run by local artists is housed in one of the former BC Forestry buildings.

The Pender Harbour Choir will be hosting the Australian choir Echology, at the School of Music Sunday July 8 at 4:30 pm. This award-winning choir of 23 members from the University of Newcastle is a rare chance to enjoy a group of this calibre on the Sunshine Coast.

Pender Harbour Music Society’s July 13 Coffee House once again will have a fabulous line up of local performers: Robin Atchison and Nelson Giles, Tamara Goble, Ashley Hautala, and David J. Taylor. Doors open at 7 p.m., music 7:30 p.m. $10 suggested donation at the door. For more information, call 604-883-9749.

Our community loves The Bargain Barn, “the finest and friendliest thrift store on the Sunshine Coast.” It provides a great shopping experience and channels much needed funds to the Health Centre, seniors’ programs and bursaries. Locals and visitors appreciate the great merchandise choices and amazing values.

In order to maintain the high standards of their merchandise, the Bargain Barn team requests that donations are clean, unbroken, new or gently used – saleable. Unsalable items must go to the dump, an operating cost that diverts money from our community. Their progressive goal of recycling and reselling is very important to the community and environmentally responsible. The Barn has extended summer hours and invites new volunteers. The Harbour is in full summertime, high-traffic mode on the waters. Remember everyone fishing on your boat needs their own licence. Know your limit. Fish within it. Freshwater and saltwater licences are mandatory and available online.

Happy Canada Day, everyone!
