Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival Midwinter Weekend Concerts has two concerts this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 27 and 28, both at 2 p.m. The amazing performers are Terence Tam, violin, Yariv Aloni, viola, Pamela Highbaugh Aloni, cello, Lorraine Min, piano. The Pender Harbour Community School offers drop-in programs four nights a week at the PH Secondary School gym: pickleball, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; floor hockey on Tuesdays 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. for boys in grade 10 and older; soccer Wednesdays 7 to 9 p.m.; and basketball on Fridays 7 to 9 p.m.
The popular Indian Cooking Classes with Sushma are back. Feb. 5 learn to make pakora, butter chicken and basmati. Feb. 26 enjoy creating curry chicken, curry chickpeas, rice and roti. March 12 cook up tiki, curry cauliflower, potatoes and lentils. Each class is $55 or all three for $150. Classes are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the PH Secondary School in the Foods Room. On Feb. 1 Lin Chen of Seniors First BC and April Struthers of the BC Association of Community Response Networks will offer a free presentation on financial and other kinds of adult abuse. They will cover signs to watch for to keep yourself safe, what you can do to watch out for family, friends and neighbours, and provide resources to help. Presentation is 1 p.m. at the PH Community Hall.
The date is set for the sweetest party of the year, the National Cupcake Party for Humane Societies and the SPCA, on Saturday Feb. 24 in downtown Madeira Shopping Centre. There will be endless delicious cupcakes, pupcakes and baked treasures to enjoy with a warm sumptuous cup of steeped tea.
