There is a new group meeting at the Pender Harbour Health Centre Board Room on Friday mornings from 10:15 to 11 a.m. called FOKUS: Focus On Keeping Us Strong. They are member driven, sharing inspiration, information and encouragement to reach healthy living goals. Best of all, its free. This Friday, Deb Cole gives an overview of the programs at the Pool and Fitness Centre and other activities throughout our community. Next Friday, Jan. 19, Haida Bolton, author and forest therapy guide, will present Keeping on Track with a Personalized Health Checklist. She will share how she has applied this in her own life and show how to personalize a list.
The Pender Harbour Music Society’s first Coffee House of the year is this Friday, Jan. 12. Performing will be Bonar Harris, Jay Burnham, Baili Clarke and Ange, Josh Boyd with his band. This Saturday, Jan. 13, join Jean Pate with Flair on the Coast at the Rockwood Centre in Sechelt from 10 a.m. to noon. Speaker Karen Switzer was a chronic pain resource nurse in long-term care on the North Shore. Pender Harbour Wildlife is proud to present Coast Salish storyteller Barbara Carmelita Higgins, Tuesday, Jan. 16, 7 p.m. at PH Secondary School. Higgins, or Xwu’p’a’lich, a storyteller, performer and author, has written hundreds of stories, poems and prayers drawing on her life and traditions about Sechelt, Egmont, Pender Harbour and Lasqueti Island. Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival Mid-winter Weekend Concerts presents two concerts this season, Saturday, Jan. 27 and Sunday, Jan. 28, both at 2 p.m. The stellar line up of performers include Terence Tam, violin; Yariv Aloni, viola; Pamela Highbaugh Aloni, cello; and Lorraine Min, piano.
