Pender Harbour & Egmont

This Friday, Sept. 8, Pender Harbour Music Society’s Coffee House at the School of Music has two special performances. Bellows and Strings with Anna Lumiere, accordion and piano, and Noah Ord, violin and mandolin, play a toe tapping medley of fiddle tunes, world music, waltzes and tangos. Simon Paradis, well known singer, songwriter, guitarist, recording artist presents his original tunes. $10 suggested donation at the door. Info: 604-883-9749, www.penderharbourmusic.ca 

Paws for a Cause, the number one fundraiser for Sunshine Coast BCSPCA, is this Sunday, Sept. 10 at Hackett Park in Sechelt. Registration starts at 11 a.m., the walk starts at noon. Come to the carnival! There will be games and prizes, vendors and BBQ (BCSPCA certified products), and great fun for all members of your family. Please support this important cause.  

Please join the Pender Harbour Advisory Council at their Fall Town Hall Meeting and AGM on Sunday, Sept. 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Community Hall in Madeira Park. The Town Hall Meetings are the most important way of connecting with the communities of Pender Harbour and Egmont. There will be presentations on the Dock Management Plan (DMP), derelict vessels, PODS, community recreation, and services for youth requiring support in our community. MLA Nicholas Simons and Area A representative to the SCRD Frank Mauro will present. The AGM will take a minimum of time.

Interested community members should consider joining the board and its pursuit of their mission: To identify, communicate and act upon Pender Harbour’s needs in order to improve and support an inclusive, prosperous and desirable community. 

The Pender Harbour Aquatic and Fitness Centre opens Monday Sept. 11. Registration is open for fall programs, and there is something for everyone. New programs include dance (hip hop, jazz, cabaret) classes for ages two to adult; mat Pilates: Mommy and Me Yoga for ages two to four and their caregivers; swim, paint and play camp, water running Aquafit, and HIIT (high intensity interval training). New evening hours at the facility are Monday to Friday 5 to 8:30 p.m. Check out the fall/winter recreation guide for all program listings or see www.scrd.ca/recreation.

The centre is pleased to have registered holistic nutritionist Alex Christian present a fall series of nutrition workshops with the first Sept. 23, 10 a.m. to noon with the topic of young family nutrition.  Preregistration required. 

The Sunshine Coast Hospice Society’s 30th anniversary Fabulous Fifty/50 tickets could win you a prize of up to $15,000. To win you must be 19+ and a resident of B.C. The winning ticket will be drawn on Oct. 5, 8 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt. In Pender Harbour tickets can be purchased at Harbour Insurance and Euspiria Cafe. Volunteers will also be selling tickets outside the IGA in Madeira Park Saturday, Sept. 16, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
