Summer Markets in the gardens at Madeira Park start this Friday, June 23. Come shop local artists and crafters for treasures.

After a season of bringing FLAIR to Pender Harbour, they have had to cancel due to a lack of support in the area; however, should a need arise, they will consider starting again in the future. FLAIR on the Coast is still being held in Sechelt at the Rockwood centre on the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon for anyone who needs support while dealing with cancer. Seniors Initiative activities this week: walking, Tuesday 10:30 to 11 a.m., carpet bowling, Wednesday 1 to 3 p.m., Harbourside Friendship, Thursday enjoy the music by the Inspirations, a group of 14 musicians that sing old favourites  and play waltzes and polkas starting at 10:30 a.m. Lunch served at noon. Chair Yoga, Friday 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. All activities at the Pender Harbour Community Centre.

The first annual Jim Jam is Sunday June 25, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Iris Griffith Centre. Join the Ruby Lake Lagoon Society for a fun day out for a very good cause! This live concert is in memory of Jim Rossi and the launch or the latest fundraising campaign to help establish the Jim Rossi School of Diving and Marine Science.

The Legion Meat Draw times will change as of July 1. Saturdays the start time for the main draw will be 3:15 p.m., Sunday the main draw will be 1:15 p.m. Early Bird draws will precede main draws both days.

Pender Harbour Days July 7 to 9 at Millennium Park will celebrate the Harbour’s maritime heritage with vintage boats, displays by PODS and S.C. Observatory, hard hat divers televising the ocean floor, vendors’ village, free wooden boat building for the kids, face painting, petting zoo and a kids’ fishing derby. Enjoy the community picnic with heritage games. Sign up your team for the oyster shucking and log sawing contests.  Allen Farrell’s famous sailing dory Buttercup will be rowed from Gibsons where it has been restored to its new home with the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society. The big arrival will be at noon Sunday, July 9 escorted by the Garden Bay Sailing Club. See www.penderharbourdays.ca to sign up for contests, view schedules and details of events. July 8 and 9 at Pender Harbour Days, your organization has a great opportunity to show all that you do for the community as part of the Community Organizations Showcase. Please register by this Sunday, June 25 at www.penderharbouradvisorycouncil.com. You can participate on one or both days. Set up by 9:45 a.m. take down 2 p.m.
