Pender Harbour & Egmont

The Pender Harbour Community Garden is open and has raised garden plots available. The garden is sponsored by the Pender Harbour Health Centre and is located behind the building. For a nominal fee of $10 per year, you can grow your own vegetables and be part of the community garden. Ask at the front desk of the Health Centre to obtain your space.

This weekend, join the Pender Harbour Paddling Society members on a trial dragon boat paddle from the Madeira government dock. Choose from Saturday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 5 p.m., or come both days. Pick up a ParticipACTION thank you gift and find out why dragon boating is #22 on their 150 playlist. Drop by the Legion on Saturday for the Meat Draw starting at 1:30 p.m. The Pull the Ace prize is $950. Sunday’s Meat Draw starts at 1 p.m. with the Catch the Queen prize at $550. After the Sunday draw, Lori Carmichael on keyboard will entertain you with her golden tones. Come out and enjoy the music and games.

At the Pender Harbour Garden Club’s meeting April 3 at 1 p.m., Ron Knight of Caron Gardens will present The Wild Rhododendrons of Mt. Elphinstone. Knight will talk of his discovery of the native rhodos.  Learn more about native plant life and bring your question about rhododendrons. Knight will follow up this presentation with a guided tour to the Pacific rhododendron site when the rhodos are in bloom. Seniors Initiative offers easy paced walking exercise Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., and carpet bowling Wednesday 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at 10:30 a.m., Harbourside Friendship will welcome Kym Harris sharing her travels walking on the Camino Trail in northern Spain. Friday at 10:30 a.m. join in the chair yoga exercises. All activities Tuesday through Friday are at the Pender Harbour Community Hall.

Thursday night Bingo needs more attendance to keep operating. Get together with friends and neighbours for a night of fun and support the Pender Harbour Community Hall. The Community Club, in support of the Hall, is holding an Arts, Crafts and Plant Sale on Saturday, April 29. Gardeners, if you are thinning your plants, please save divisions for the sale.
