Harbour / Egmont Highlights: Madiera Market makes its 2022 debut

Grade 9 student Ben Ellerton created the Kid’s Trunk Sale as part of his pursuit of the Chief Scout Award. Funds raised are to go toward Pender Harbour Community School.

Madeira Market 2022 debuts Friday April 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Courtyard at the Hall (weather permitting). This social and quaint market will happen each Friday through to September. Come visit! Come shop! Renew or sign up for your PHCC Membership $5 single $10 for a family. This is a fundraiser for the Hall hosted by the Pender Harbour Community Club.  

Tonight, at the School of Music, the Pender Harbour Music Society is pleased to present the return of the Coffee House with local superstars Patricia Burnett, vocalist, pianist, songwriter and Simon Paradis, Kaia Nelson, and Mark Lebell “Them Ordinary Things.” Doors open at 7 p.m. Music at 7:30 p.m. Suggested donation $10 at the door. Saturday night, as he does each weekend, Joe Stanton – the Coast’s famous favourite guitarist, singer songwriter – will be performing at the Back Eddy from 5 p.m. Enjoy a wonderful time in the spectacular setting, with fabulous food, tasty bevys, fantastic music, and as always outstanding service from Joan. You don’t need to drive home. Relax and stay overnight in one of their cozy cabins.

Next Saturday the Legion will host their extremely popular Easter Ham and Turkey Draw along with an Easter Basket Auction. Early Bird draws start at 3 p.m. Sunday brunch 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be followed at 2 p.m. with the Live Music Dance Party when the Peter Van Trio takes the stage. Cover $5 at the door. More music coming April 22 with Clanna Morna. Tickets on sale and going fast for this evening of music, including dinner $40 at the Legion. 

The Pender Harbour Golf Club has a few spaces left for their fundraiser, Sunday, April 24, the Giant Yard Sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds will go towards repairing damage done by this past winter’s storms and general improvements. You can donate items to the club’s table as well as book your own by calling 604-883-9541. There will be lots of activities, fun for the whole family. 

Finally, gardening time is here! Please think about donating any extra divisions, bulbs or garden related books, décor, or hand tools to the All for The Hall Annual Plant Sale April 30. Call 604-989-0851 for more info. Vendor (artisan) tables available. 

April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge April 30 invites teams of four to sign up at for this very entertaining competition at www.penderharbourheritage.ca. Entry fee is $200 with large cash prizes to be won. 

Celebration of life for Paul Gaudet will be held April 30, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Legion Hall Madeira Park. If you would like to share something about Paul but not comfortable speaking in public, please write up your story and the MC will read it out for you. 

Please note Fibre Works hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Visit the Yurts and enjoy the current exhibit, “Staking Ground.” 

The Kid’s Trunk Sale, the creation of Ben Ellerton, a Grade 9 student ambitiously pursuing his Chief Scout Award, was a wonderful success. Happy shoppers of all ages found treasures to purchase. Funds raised will go to the Pender Harbour Community School. Ben’s final report to the Scout Troop should ensure that the Governor General will be presenting him with the highest Scout Award.
