Halfmoon Happenings: Health Care Auxiliary working on Valentine’s Cards

Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary participating in "Project Cheer"

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week and enjoyed some time outside. As we are experiencing typical winter weather during these early days of February, we are blessed with some sunny days and clear skies at night. The stars seem to be brighter and clearer this time of year so hopefully you’ll find a good place to view them.

The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary (SCHA) is holding its first 2022 meeting at Coopers Green Hall on Feb.14 at 10 a.m. with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. Members and guests are welcome, must be vaccinated, show their passports and wear masks.

Coming up on Valentine’s Day, the Halfmoon Bay Branch is participating in “Project Cheer” by donating Valentine cards to care home residents on the Sunshine Coast. “Project Cheer” was introduced last year by the Sechelt Hospital Foundation where health care workers and support personnel received Valentine’s cards. This year, Karen Biddlecombe, chair of the Halfmoon Bay Branch, has asked members to make or buy cards that will be distributed to residents of Shorncliffe, Totem Lodge and 2nd Floor South. SCHA Halfmoon Bay member Moira Sarling advised that “if we receive enough cards, we will be able to spread the cheer to support and care staff at these locations as well.” The cards will be signed “from your Aux friend, Halfmoon Bay Branch.” Along with the cards, some volunteer members will bake or buy Valentine cookies for the residents, which will be delivered along with the cards. SCHA would like to thank everyone for their continued support during this time and throughout the year!

Although Valentine’s Day may not be celebrated as a holiday and some don’t acknowledge it at all, others take the time to do something extra special for their loved ones. Whether it be preparing a special dinner or giving flowers or sharing chocolates and a nice bottle of wine, it’s a wonderful time to show love and affection. Whatever you do on Valentine’s Day, I hope that you take a moment to let those around you know how much you love them. Savour those chocolates, enjoy the flowers and cherish the cards or simply say ‘I love you.’ Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
