Harbour / Egmont Highlights: Participate in random acts of kindness next week

Pender Harbour

There could be no better time to join in the Pender Harbour Community School’s Random Acts of Kindness Week Feb. 14 to the 18 as they engage in spontaneous and intentional acts of kindness in our community. They will be posting stories and photos and would love to share yours too. Please send them along to [email protected]. Check out their great poster full of ideas for showing your compassion and that you care on their website  pendercommunity.ca “There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to helping others without expecting anything in return,” Nelson Mandela once said.

Thanks to community support and generosity, FibreWorks Studio & Gallery continues to present exceptional exhibitions in the fibre arts, provide engaging educational opportunities and connect our community with meaningful encounters with the fibre arts in all of its various forms: textiles, paper wood, basketry and of course fibre. Call out for volunteers: if you can offer a few hours each week or month, volunteering will benefit the gallery. Slow Sunday Series, a favourite program on the last Sunday of each month, allows the beginner or novice to work with a practicing local expert and will begin in April. Visit their Facebook page for more wonderful information.

Harbourside Friendships, Thursday, Feb. 17, 10:30 a.m. at the Pender Harbor Community Hall, welcomes everyone to the presentation from guest speaker Linda Cordell on “Joint Accounts vs Power of Attorney.” Events at the Hall are posted on the Pender Harbour Community Club’s calendar on their website www.penderharbourcommunity.club. Support your PH Community Hall by purchasing this month’s Rotary 50/50 tickets and renewing your PHCC memberships.

With the month of February come the T4s, T5s and other tax-related documents and if you are like me, anxiety! Fear not! Help is here. March 1 through April 30, you can take advantage of the Volunteer Income Tax Program right here in Madeira Park at the PH Health Centre and PH Community School three different ways: walk-in tax clinics, drop off and by appointment. For by appointment, call Harry at 604-741-5132. I booked an appointment last year with this lovely gentleman and instead of dreading, enjoyed filing my income tax. See you soon Harry.

The cycle of life goes on and the bears will be waking up soon. Sunshine Coast Bear Alliance has embarked on their education campaign for 2022 asking for volunteers to post informative signage in their neighbourhoods. Visit their Facebook page and/or contact me at the email below for signs.

The response from our community to “Mission Impossible” the rescue of 285 cats and dogs was truly heartwarming. For folks interested in adopting, visit Rain Coast Dog Society, Victoria  & Thank Dog I Am Out Vancouver websites.

Contact me with your news and information at [email protected] for the Friday edition of the Coast Reporter newspaper and online.
