Hi everyone! Happy November! Hope you all had a wonderful week as we enjoyed some sunny breaks in between the rain that we so desperately needed. There is even a chance of flurries in the forecast over the next few days with temperatures dipping below zero. Bundle up out there. As we say good bye to another month and move into the winter season, it looks like we may be in for a colder, snowier winter based on the long-range forecast from the Farmer’s Almanac. “Winter will be colder than normal in the north and warmer in the south, with the coldest periods in mid and late November and throughout most of December. Precipitation will be above normal, on average, with snowfall below normal in the north and above normal in the south. The snowiest periods will be in late November, early and late December, and late January.” Will we have another white Christmas this year? Only 52 more days left until Christmas.
It’s that time of year again when we turn our clocks back one hour. This Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 a.m. marks the end of Daylight Savings Time. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back before going to bed on Saturday night.
Tonight, Friday, Nov. 4, the Halfmoon Bay Community Association (HBCA) will hold their third Town Hall of 2022, beginning at 6 p.m. Their AGM will follow at 8 p.m. The meeting agendas and Zoom link information can be found on their website at halfmoon-bay.ca/town-hall-agm-november-4th/. Everyone is welcome to attend and only HBCA members are eligible to vote on the addition of three directors to the board. HBCA President Linda McMahon shared some information regarding the Coopers Green Hall Replacement Project. “Following deferment of a vote on the SCRD Staff Report at the October 13 SCRD Board meeting, a task force from the HBCA Board of Directors had further discussions with SCRD staff representatives regarding the options presented in the report.” With many significant challenges to overcome, both parties have agreed to a modified project proposal to put before the board for a decision at an upcoming meeting. “Both parties believe this proposal meets the original vision and goals of the community as outlined in the 2016 Coopers Green Park Management Plan, albeit in two separate locations.” For details on this proposal, go to www.halfmoon-bay.ca. Community input is invited. Send emails to [email protected].
On Nov. 11, we remember our fallen soldiers who fought for our country. Millions of Canadians wear a poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed so much. Traditionally from the last Friday of October to November 11, a poppy is worn on the left side (lapel) above the heart. It is a powerful symbol of remembrance and highly respected. If you find a poppy on the ground, pick it up, brush it off, wear it, store it or dispose of it respectfully. While the poppy is distributed freely to all who wish to wear one, the Royal Canadian Legion gratefully accepts donations to their Poppy Fund. Take a moment to receive a poppy and thank the Legion member for their commitment to helping veterans, including serving military, RCMP members and their families as well as supporting our communities and country.
