Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week while we endured some heavy rain, wind and continued single-digit temperatures. As we’re looking forward to the first day of spring this Sunday, here’s hoping that the weather will improve soon.

During the two weeks of spring break, pickleball at the Halfmoon Bay Community Elementary School will not be in session as the school will be closed. The return to the regular schedule will be on Tuesday, March 29 at 5:15 p.m.

Kym’s Plants is now open! Visit Kym and check out all the amazing plants between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday at 7910 Fawn Road. There are many perennials to choose from along with trees, shrubs, fruit trees, grasses, roses, rhododendron, azaleas and ferns. Selected one-gallon potted plants for only $10.

Kym also has another passion, baking! Little Red Hen is a labour of love for this busy lady. Kym has been cooking and baking since she was a child and continues to perfect her passion. She uses organic products as often as she can as well as gluten free options. Some of the baked and cooked items to choose from are freshly baked focaccia ($6.75 each) with tempting flavours of spinach kalamata olive, jalapeno cheddar, and sun-dried tomato parmesan, along with olive-cheddar and cranberry-orange breads. There are cinnamon buns too! Place your order on Tuesdays for pick-up at noon on Wednesdays. Items will be added upon request. Need an idea for dinner? Well, Kym has that covered too as she also offers frozen lasagnas, which can be keto, vegan and gluten free as well as the traditional beef. These scrumptious lasagnas are $20 each. To contact Kym, call 604-740-0046, email [email protected] or find her on Facebook and send a message.

The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary (SCHA) presented a $1,000 cheque to both the Pender Harbour Elementary and Secondary School and Halfmoon Bay Community Elementary School to assist with their meal programs. President Karen Biddlecombe along with SCHA members Linda Karleen and Anne Selder presented the cheque to school staff. The funds raised for this donation were from their bake and plant sale and the special Sunday opening of the thrift store in Sechelt. The support of the community is greatly appreciated during all the SCHA Halfmoon Bay branch fund raising events.

The Halfmoon Bay Community Association’s (HBCA) fundraiser ‘Auction at the Bay’ kicked off with a bang! HBCA president Linda McMahon shared that, “dozens of bids were placed in the opening hours and residents continue to visit the site as more items are added each day.” Auction donations are still being accepted so if you have an item or items to donate, please send an email to the organizers at [email protected]. The ‘Auction at the Bay’ has something for everyone so be sure to check it out at 32auctions.com/AuctionAtTheBay. Auction ends on March 27 at 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit a very worthy local project, the SCCSS’s Building Together project.
