The Halfmoon Bay Country Fair with the Super Hero theme will soon be upon us. There will be a free evening kick off (donations to the new Coopers Green Hall accepted) on Thursday, July 6 at 7 p.m. at Coopers Green Hall. John Clyde and Peter Hews, history buffs who will have a display of the history of logging railways and logging roads in the Halfmoon Bay area in the 1920s and 1930s. They will tell us of the existence of over eight kilometres of standard gauge railway in Halfmoon Bay prior to 1920 and a 50-ton steam train that was imported from Pennsylvania to pursue the first commercial logging operation in the community. They are hoping that people will share stories and anecdotes about these early operations as well as suggestions on how best to display some of these artifacts in Halfmoon Bay.

If you would like to promote the Fair, we are looking for families to dress up as super heroes to take part in the July 1 Canada Day parade in Sechelt and give away candy. Contact [email protected].
Highlights for the Fair on Saturday, July 8: Kids Fishing Derby at Halfmoon Bay government wharf; Family Dinner and Dance, salmon BBQ at Coopers Green Park with music by Playback. Tickets at Halfmoon Bay General Store, Welcome Woods Market, Pastimes.
Sunday, July 9: Pancake Breakfast at Coopers Green Park; 3.5 mile Trophy Race. Registration at Connor Park. Fair begins with official opening at 11 a.m. and celebration of the 51st Halfmoon Bay Country Fair.
For July 9, we need cakes or pies for the cake walk and helpers willing to help control traffic.
This truly is a community fair where our schools, childcare, hospital auxiliary, volunteer fire department and many others put on the fun and are able to raise their much-needed funds. This community has so much to offer – be part of it.
