Broom Busters Mary Beth Knechtel and Roslyn Ladner did a sweep of Redrooffs and Welcome Woods to scout out the Scotch broom and have drawn up a plan of attack. There are three blocked areas along Redrooffs from north to south, and there are four areas of Welcome Woods where infestation is pretty thick with this invasive species. It would really help to have Welcome Woods neighbours come out to help bust the broom. Knechtel and Ladner have set up for Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20 for busting. They will be team captains and explain the procedure. They would like to get at least eight or 10 volunteers to tackle Welcome Woods, and someone with a pick-up truck to haul pickings to the green-waste – which will take broom once again. Volunteers should come equipped with loppers, gloves, sun hats and bug repellent. Gathering points are Friday, May 19 at 10 a.m. at Coopers Green Park and Saturday, May 20 at 10 a.m. at the Welcome Woods Market, rain or shine.

In honour of Local Government Awareness Week (May 21 to 27), and as a celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) is hosting a series of Community Dialogues. Residents are invited to any of the dialogues being held at various locations on the Sunshine Coast, each tailored to topics and services specific to that area.
This is an opportunity for one-on-one conversation with the SCRD board and staff, in a casual, family friendly setting. Halfmoon Bay’s dialogue will be at Coopers Green Hall Tuesday, May 16, beginning at 7 p.m. For more information, email [email protected].
The Russell deClare concert, with Steve Briggs, Joe Stanton and Simon Paradis, was a sensational hit. The event lived up to the sold-out status it received. It would have been nice if there was a second show as both Halfmoon Bay ticket outlets said they could have sold many more tickets.
The next dance hosted by the Halfmoon Bay Community Association will have Poppa Greg and the Chillin’ Dylans June 17.
Welcome Wagon will take community information and free gifts to all newcomers to the Sunshine Coast. Welcome Wagon also delivers free information and gifts from local businesses to families with new babies. Please contact Welcome Wagon at [email protected], or call Rita at 604-885-3601 or Judith at 604-886-9896 to request your visit.
To have your say at the bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at [email protected] or 604-885-5034.
