Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

If you have children or grandchildren, do not miss this Saturday, July 4. There is a low tide beach exploration and 25th anniversary celebration of Sargeant Bay Provincial Park, noon to 4 p.m. The Sargeant Bay Society invites the community to come celebrate and explore Sargeant Bay Provincial Park. There will be a beach seine, marine display tanks and natural history information.

The Vancouver aquarium’s Wet-Lab, their popular one-of-a-kind, behind the scenes classroom, allowing visitors to handle and observe a wide variety of live tidal pool animals from local B.C. waters, will also be there.

This will be an extra special celebration as they mark the 25th anniversary of the park, and raise a glass of lemonade to Joop Burgerjon, who passed earlier this month. Burgerjon helped create the park, and was the steward of the park for many years.

There is a large crowd expected and there will be a shuttle bus from the HMB School on Northwood to the park starting at 11:30 a.m. There will not be sufficient parking in and around Sargeant Bay.

Halfmoon Bay Country Fair starts July 11 with the kids fishing derby and some fabulous prizes. It begins at 10 a.m. at the HMB Café.

There are a few spots available for crafters and artisans wishing to participate in HMB Country Fair July 12. Contact Lori Davis at [email protected] or Lori Wishlow at [email protected] for more details.

Advance tickets are now on sale for the HMB Country Fair salmon BBQ and dance, with live music by Larrie Cook and the Bluesmasters on Saturday, July 11. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 each, available at HMB General Store, Welcome Woods Market and Pastimes in Sechelt.

To determine the future of Coopers Green Park, the SCRD has initiated the Coopers Green Management Plan project and has engaged a consulting team to guide this process. The plan resulting from this project will provide a long-term vision and goal for the park (including the hall and boat launch) as well as identify short-term management policies and actions. Residents’ input will help guide the direction for the recreational management, environmental stewardship, hall development and use of boat launch.
