Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

If you have children or grandchildren visiting on July 4, you should mark your calendar for the low tide beach exploration and 25th anniversary of Sargeant Bay Provincial Park, from noon to 4 p.m.

The Sargeant Bay Society invites the community to come celebrate and explore Sargeant Bay Provincial Park. There will be a beach seine, marine display tanks and natural history information.

The Vancouver Aquarium’s Wet-Lab, their popular one-of-a-kind, behind-the-scenes classroom that allows visitors to handle and observe a wide variety of live tidal pool animals from local B.C. waters, will also be there.

This will be an extra special celebration as the Society marks the 25th anniversary of the park, and raises a glass of lemonade to Joop Burgerjon, who passed earlier this month. Burgerjon helped create the park and was steward of the park for many years.

Vendors wishing to participate in HMB Country Fair July 12, please contact Lori Davis at [email protected] or Lori Wishlow at [email protected] for more details.

Gary Nohr, SCRD chair and director of Area B, Halfmoon Bay, will be available from 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays at the Halfmoon Bay Café and Tuesdays at Welcome Woods Market.

Advance tickets are now on sale for the HMB Country Fair salmon BBQ and dance, Saturday, July 11, with live music by Larrie Cook and the Bluesmasters. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at HMB General Store, Welcome Woods Market and Pastimes in Sechelt.

To determine the future of Coopers Green Park, the SCRD has initiated the Coopers Green management plan project and has engaged a consulting team to guide this process. The plan resulting from this project will provide a long-term vision and goal for the park (including the hall and boat launch) as well as identify short-term management policies and actions. Residents’ input will help guide the direction for the recreational management, environmental stewardship, hall development and use of boat launch. Please take time to complete the survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/Coopers-Green

To have your say at the bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at [email protected] or 604-885-5034.
