Halfmoon Happenings

Halfmoon Bay

There is a new program started called the Halfmoon Bay Reading Centre, a partnership between the Halfmoon Bay/Chatelech Community School Association, the Halfmoon Bay Information and Referral Centre (HMBIRC) and the Sechelt Public Library.

It is a volunteer-run initiative to connect Halfmoon Bay residents of all ages with library services. Through this program, residents will be able to order books online to pick up and drop off at Halfmoon Bay School.

Every second Wednesday from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. in the school library, you will be able to pick up books you have pre-ordered. A drop box will be available anytime during school hours for returns. There will be computers and assistance available to anyone in need of help connecting with the library online. Each session will provide a theme, possibly a specialist on that subject, coffee/tea and a chance to chat with friends and neighbours.

Please come out and familiarize yourself with the library and what we hope will be a valuable service in our community. The first theme will be gardening. For more information, call HMBIRC at 604-551-8461 or email [email protected].

With just three weeks left before the season closes, drop in and play pickleball, the fastest growing sport in North America, 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the Halfmoon Bay Community School gym, Northwood Road. Racquets and balls are provided. Cost is $3 per session. For more information email [email protected], or Tim Dayton [email protected]

The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary would like to thank the community for coming out on Saturday, May 9 and supporting their bake craft and plant sale, where they made over $3,000. They would like to especially thank the anonymous man who dropped off and donated a box of plants for them to sell.

There is more to come on the Auxiliary’s annual garden tour fundraiser; mark your calendar for June 13 and 14.

To have your say at the bay, contact me before 5 p.m. Monday at [email protected], or call 604-885-5034.
