Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week and enjoyed some time in the garden, out for walk or on the water. We sure had a mix of amazing sunshine and warm days along with wind and rain. That’s spring weather for you.
Kelli from the Halfmoon Bay Café recently shared some news about her beloved café and her future. The HMB Café closed its doors on Sept. 28 last year and the building has since been demolished. Kelli had hoped to reopen in another location, but life has taken her in a different direction. Kelli says, “As sad as it is to see the building go, it was old and beyond repair, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the site!”
Kelli has been offered a position that she has been hoping to get for nearly 10 years, and she just couldn’t turn it down. “As much as I loved running the Café, this is what I went to school for, and where my passion truly lies.” She added, “I will miss so many aspects of the Café, but most of all, I’ll miss the regulars who came in every day for their coffee or cinnamon bun. I’ll miss being up to my elbows in amaretti batter and bantering with you all over the hiss of the espresso machine.” Kelli says she feels so lucky to have called that place home for such a long time, and it gave her the chance to meet so many wonderful friends. “Please don’t forget me, I know I won’t forget you!” As many of her followers and regulars have said, they will hold dear all the memories of the Café and how truly amazing Kelli was with her patrons, visitors and friends. We wish you all the best, Kelli, and keep in touch.
As we enter into the long weekend, province-wide travel restrictions are still in place and it is suggested to stay close to home. It is noted that there may be periodic road checks set up in key travel corridors between the defined travel regions. As the Sunshine Coast falls under the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley region, we expect to see visitors here this weekend regardless of the essential-travel-only restrictions. BC Ferries has noted that they will be reminding customers that travel should be for essential purposes only – yet, as of this writing, the reservations site shows all sailings from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale on Friday, May 21 are sold out and the return trip sailings on Monday are sold out from 1 p.m. until the last sailing at 8:55 p.m. There are some Sunshine Coast residents who are uneasy about visitors coming here for reasons other than essential, but we must continue to be respectful and stay safe. It is suggested to still wear a mask, wash your hands and practise social distancing, even though you have received the COVID-19 vaccine. We are all in this together and hope that everyone will remain healthy so we can finally put this pandemic behind us.
Be safe, be gentle, and always be kind.
