Hi everyone! Thank you for your welcoming comments and encouraging words as I navigate through this new adventure. Thank you again to Terry Knight for his contributions to the column, the Halfmoon Bay community and beyond. His shoes will be tough ones to fill, but I will do my best.
The Halfmoon Bay Community Association is currently working on what the future looks like for events and gatherings in Halfmoon Bay for the remainder of the year. The Shari Ulrich concert on May 22 will most likely be postponed and a new date will be shared as soon as more details are available. A notice regarding what to do with the tickets you have purchased will be forthcoming and will be posted on Facebook and their website, by member email and through this column. The Association would like to thank everyone for their patience. Further discussion is in progress for the Halfmoon Bay Country Fair, which is held in July, and Breakfast with Santa in December. Please stay tuned!
Broom Busters in Halfmoon Bay are currently working on their plan to battle the Scotch broom over the next two weeks. If you trim broom on your property, leave the pile (broom ONLY) on the roadside. Please do not include any other garden waste! Volunteers will pick up and place the broom in a fenced area by the Fire Hall. Fire Chief Ryan Daley and the crew will do a controlled burn in the fall. If you would like to volunteer or if you require broom to be removed on your property, please contact Mary Beth at [email protected].
Need groceries? Don’t forget our local stores: Welcome Woods Market and Halfmoon Bay General Store. They are well stocked and are providing a safe shopping experience. Instead of just buying lottery tickets and the newspaper, buy some staple items as well. They appreciate the business and are trying their very best to remain open for our community.
During this very difficult time, we are finding new and possibly better ways to live our very precious lives. People are planting vegetable gardens instead of flower beds, communicating online, by phone or over the fence, working from home, shopping for groceries online, helping their neighbours more, walking in their own backyards, listening to the birds and wildlife, sharing, giving, being grateful. What I’m hearing from everyone is that we are so extremely lucky and blessed to live in such a beautiful place. We all want to take care, follow the rules, stay healthy and wash our hands.
Tip of the week:
In your garden, now is the time to plant cool weather vegetables and herbs: lettuce, kale, chard, spinach, beets, carrots and green onions.
To have your say at the Bay, please contact me before 5 p.m. on Mondays: [email protected]
Be kind, be gentle, be safe.
