Everyone is invited to Friday Dinner at the Legion, this Friday Sept. 18. Dinner is 5:30 to 8 p.m. with live music from local musician The Sandman. On Saturday, Sept. 19 at 9 p.m. The Legion welcomes Smiling Jack Smith to play. He has been writing and singing his songs in a career that spans five decades and three continents from New York City to Vancouver, from Florida to New Jersey, from Madrid to Australia to Hamburg. Smith has worked with many blues artists and has just released a new CD, Simple Pleasure, working with David Gwynn. It is an eclectic mix of many different blues styles and topics. Admission is $8 for members, $16 for guests of members. Doors open at 8 p.m.
On Sunday, Sept. 20, the Heart Market is still going strong from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – in the Heart of the Creek, of course! See you there!
Also on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1168 Grandview Road in Gibsons from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. learn about straw bale gardening with Brenda Thomas. Thomas is a local farmer who in the last two years has discovered an innovative way to grow vegetables with bales of straw. Class fee is $10. Please preregister for this event at [email protected]. Dinner is served at the Legion from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, with an open jam with A.D.D. from 7:30 to 11 p.m.
Scouts begin their first meetings this week. Beaver Scouts 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. and Cub Scouts 6 to 7:30 p.m., both on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Sea Scouts is Wednesday, Sept. 23, 6 to 8 p.m. All meetings are at Camp Byng, 2139 Lower Road.
Wednesday, Sept. 23 is the Roberts Creek Community Association’s general meeting at 7 p.m. There will be a dark sky presentation with Charles Ennis of the SC Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society who will talk about their aim to make the Sunshine Coast the first dark sky community in Canada to be recognized by the International Dark Sky Association.
