Give the gift of joy

CanaDares

Every weekend until the end of November, CanaDares’ Lynda Kearns will be at the Trail Bay Mall in Sechelt to offer information on the non-profit society that provides shelter to Dar-es-Salaam’s street children.

Hoping to continue the work with abandoned orphans, CanaDares, a registered Canadian charity, is urging Sunshine Coast grandparents and parents to give “the gift of joy” this Christmas as an alternative to the traditional present. A $25 donation to the charity will provide one month’s schooling for a child at the African shelter, while $50 will allow water to be available for more than two dozen children.

The Sunshine Coast has supported the non-profit in the past at an annual spring golf tournament, dinner and auction, but CanaDares is hoping to increase its donor numbers this season with the information booth and targeted Christmas giving available at the mall every Saturday this month.

CBC Radio’s North by Northwest featured an interview with Kearns, who had just returned from Africa. Learn more at www.canaDares.ca
