Fourteen girls and three leaders from the Sunshine Coast attended the Spirit of Adventure Rendezvous (SOAR) 2017 in Smithers from July 21 to 29.

SOAR is a week-long provincial back-to-basics outdoor camp sponsored by the BC Council of Girl Guides of Canada, for girls between the ages of 11 and 18.

More than 2,300 girls and leaders from B.C. attended, as well as representative patrols from the rest of Canada and other countries including Japan, England, Scotland and more. Most groups come as a complete patrol of eight girls and two leaders. There were 200 volunteer core staff who spent more than a year preparing for this camp.

During the camp, the girls take part in programming led by volunteer leaders consisting of traditional camp-type activities such as cooking, campfire sing-alongs and crafts. The girls may sign up to try out activities in each of the program areas – Active Recreation, Crafts, Environment, Fine Arts, Service, Science and Technology and Waterfront.

The opportunity to attend this event happens once every three years. The Tetrahedron Girl Guides extend their gratitude to the community for your support. Cookie purchases and donations from organizations and businesses all over the Coast throughout the year contributed in allowing the opportunity for our local girls to participate in this event and other learning opportunities within B.C. and throughout the world.
