National Safe Boating Week takes place from May 20 to 26 and Sunshine Coast Power and Sail Squadron will be holding its third annual Flare Return Day together with its Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks (RVCC) program. Both events are at no cost to the boater.
Bring your outdated CIL/Orion flares to The Bitter End Boaters’ Exchange, 1044 Seamount Way, Gibsons, behind Skookum Chrysler, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, May 20 and give them to Power Squadron members. This is the once per year opportunity to get rid of your out-of-date flares on the Coast.
As you get ready to start a new boating season, what better time than now to have a trained Power Squadron officer go over your boat to ensure you have all the correct safety gear on board? This service will not only ensure that you are a safer boater, but could prevent a significant fine should you be checked by authorities.
The squadron’s Recrea-tional Vessel Courtesy Check team will be at Gibson’s Marina May 20. If your boat is elsewhere, you can make arrangements to have a Sunshine Coast Squadron member come to your boat. The squadron has trained persons operating on the Coast from Gibsons to Sechelt.
Mark May 20 on your calendars and plan to make this a safe a boating year.
