In celebration of summer and life on the Sunshine Coast, Canadian Federation of University Women’s (CFUW) luncheon and fashion show was held on June 8 with dash and panache at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club. Thanks to seven new CFUW members’ ingenuity and skill and coordinated by Marie Anna Elder, the event delighted 76 participants with a great salad luncheon variety, catered by the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club, and a fun-filled fashion show.
How fashion-forward are we? According to the show’s commentator John West, black and white is hot, pale denims are in, an updated ’70s vibe is back, and natural fabrics are celebrated. Swish in Lower Gibsons (Lynn Ujvary owner) was first on the runway featuring Sunshine Coast comfort and style. Modeled by six CFUW board members, Swish’s free-flowing feminine designs were brought to life. Following lunch, six more CFUW board members showed off structured colourful styles complemented by jaunty hats, fascinators and shoes from Cactus Flower in Trail Bay Centre, Sechelt (Evva Bailey owner). Door prizes were provided by both fashion stores: Swish’s door prize was a scarf; Cactus Flower door prizes were two $25 in-store gift certificates.
Ellen Smith, incoming SC-CFUW president, thanked all who worked hard to make this event a success and thanked Barbara Cochran, outgoing president, for her capable leadership over the past two years. Bouquets to everyone! For more see www.sc-cfuw.com
