February is Toastmasters Month

Public Speaking

On Jan. 24, the Town of Gibsons proclaimed February as Toastmasters Month in honour of the two Gibsons clubs that meet regularly to help members of the community to further their public speaking goals – Morningstars Toastmasters and Beachcombers Advanced Toastmasters clubs.

At the Feb. 1 District of Sechelt council meeting, Mayor Bruce Milne also proclaimed February as Toastmasters Month in honour of the Sunshine Toastmasters Club that meets in Sechelt.

The three clubs invite the community to Fall in Love with Toastmasters at open houses in February. Everyone is welcome to visit the clubs to see firsthand how the Toastmasters program works, listen to inspiring speeches made by fellow residents and chat with members about their unique journey.

All events are free and open to the public.

Morningstars Toastmasters Open House is set for 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 686 Harmony Lane (Harmony Hall) in Gibsons. Beachcombers Advanced Toastmasters Open House is 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, a dinner meeting at Sita’s Spag & Suds at 851 Gibsons Way. For more information on either of these two meetings, contact Weegee Sachtjen at [email protected] or 604-315-4328.

Sunshine Toastmasters Club Open House will be held at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre (5714 Medusa St. in Sechelt). For more details, contact Haida Bolton at 604-989-3600.

And on March 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the Gibsons Garden Hotel, Toastmasters will host a special meeting to determine if there is potential for an afternoon or evening club in Gibsons. This meeting will offer demonstrations, testimonials and a question period for attendees to learn more about the program.

“Many people are intrigued about the self-development that Toastmasters offers, but they find it difficult to meet at 7 a.m.,” said Sheila Cameron, the current area director for the Sunshine Coast clubs. “We’d like to increase access so that more of our community members can benefit.”
