Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week and were able to enjoy some family time with your moms. We’ve had some warm days, with beautiful blue skies and cool, clear nights. The birds begin their morning song a little earlier each day and we love that the frogs are still singing their little hearts out in the evening and during the night. More bees and bugs are taking flight all around us and we’ve even had some snakes and forest salamander visit while out in the garden. Love all these creatures and this time of year!

A lovely farm stand has continued the tradition at a popular location in Halfmoon Bay. The O Farm is located at 8070 Redrooffs Rd. Owners Jason and Jonathan moved to Halfmoon Bay from Vancouver in May of 2020 with their rescue dog Theo. They are energic and hard-working and hope to continue providing the amazing bounty from their gardens, at least 60 garden beds! Jonathan said, “The property has been organically farmed for over 25 years. We will provide sustainably grown fruit, vegetables, flowers and preserves.” When asked how the name of the farm came about, they said the “O” represents organics, “but is also a play on words. Our rescue dog’s name is Theo (TheO).” I recently stopped by the stand and picked up some of their asparagus. It was the best we’ve ever had! Be sure to stop by and check out their stand. Follow them on Facebook (facebook.com/The-O-Farm), visit their website (theofarm.ca) and Instagram (instagram.com/the-o-farm/). Welcome to this wonderful community of Halfmoon Bay and we can’t wait to see what amazing items will be available over the next few months.

Also, further along Redrooffs, there is another stand with a very unique roof. They provide seasonal items such as vegetables, fruit and seeds. They are located at 8146 Redrooffs Rd. and recently posted that they have available some globe artichokes, garlic chives, valerian, camomile, some cabbages and cauliflowers. Some “pay it forward” seeds like arugula are also available. Be sure to stop by and see what treasures can be found.

The Sunshine Coast Marine Rescue Society (SCMRS) recently reached out to advise that they are looking for volunteers to serve on the board. The email address noted in last week’s column was incorrect so the corrected one is below. The society is looking for board members to volunteer for positions in administration/secretarial, grant writing, media communication and fundraising. For more information or to submit an expression of interest, please contact John Maddalozzo at [email protected].
