Elections set for community plan committee

The newly adopted Roberts Creek official community plan (OCP) is a document to be proud of.

The newly adopted Roberts Creek official community plan (OCP) is a document to be proud of. Although it incorporates many changes from the previous OCP, the inclusion of an official community plan committee (OCPC) continues to be a unique feature of the Roberts Creek OCP.

TheOCPCis an elected group of volunteers who meet on a monthly basis to ensure that theOCP is being followed, that it remains current and that it continues to meet the needs of the citizens of the Creek.

The committee is a made-in-Roberts-Creek organization. It is an independent body that gives feedback directly to the Sunshine Coast Regional District board. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month at Roberts Creek Elementary School and are open to the public.

Elections for the new OCPC will be held at the Roberts Creek Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 8 p.m. There are 11 positions on the OCPC with approximately half the members being elected each year for a two-year term. Although the OCPC has no formal ties to the Roberts Creek Community Association, the elections are conducted during the Association's November monthly meeting for the sake of convenience.

A person does not have to be a member of the Association either to vote for an OCPCcandidate or to run for membership on the OCPC. However, voters must be residents of Roberts Creek and candidates must have been residents of Roberts Creek for one year and must maintain residency in the Creek while serving on the committee.

Candidates must either attend the election or send a written statement to the OCPC chair regarding their intent to be a candidate, their involvement in the community and why they would like to serve on the OCPC.

Would you like to get more involved in your community? Consider running for a position on the Roberts Creek OCPC.
