ElderCollege offers spring courses preview

Sunshine Coast ElderCollege invites the community age 55 plus to attend a free preview of its spring 2018 courses on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Capilano University’s Sechelt Campus. 

ElderCollege is a community of people over 55 with a zest for learning and exploring life as we continue to broaden our horizons. Its volunteer experts offer a wealth of valuable courses and activities throughout the year to the Sunshine Coast community. 

ElderCollege works in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) for registration and publicity and in association with Capilano University. Fees are $36.75 (GST included). The majority of courses will be held at the Sechelt campus. 

Spring 2018 courses are: Geology of the Sunshine Coast, Hot Topics, Law for Seniors – Pender Harbour, Law for Seniors – Sechelt, Take Charge of your Health Care, iPad for Beginners, Design Your Own Garden, Trace your Ancestors, Plant-based Nutrition, The Anthropocene: From Hunter Gatherer to Geophysical Force, Solar Energy, Create Stunning Photos with your iPhone, A New Lens on the Past, How Rivers Shape our Planet and our Civilization, Restorative Justice, Festival of the Written Arts Preview, and Spring Birding on the Sunshine Coast. 

Anyone under the age of 55 who would like to take a course can be put on a wait-list if the course is not full. 

Registration with the SCRD opens on Monday, Dec. 11 (before the preview on Dec. 14). Students can register by phone (604-885-6801), on the SCRD website (www.scrd.ca/recreation) or in person at the Sechelt Aquatic Centre, the Gibsons and Area Community Centre or at the Pender Harbour Aquatic and Fitness Centre.
