ElderCollege offers online and in-person classes for fall

Full vaccination required for in-person classes
Seniors using zoom
SC Eldercollege will be offering both online and in-person classes this fall.
Sunshine Coast ElderCollege is continuing its online course offerings this fall on Zoom and reintroducing in-person classes for some courses. The public is invited to watch a recorded presentation previewing the courses at sunshinecoasteldercollege.ca. Registration opens on Monday, Aug. 16, at noon.

Since the 55-and-up age group is particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 and variants are a continuing concern, the return to in-person classes will be approached with great caution and will follow all B.C. government health orders and guidelines.

There will be a requirement that all facilitators, presenters and participants are fully vaccinated – proof will be the card from the vaccination clinics – and masks are strongly recommended at indoor classes. If public health guidelines change and necessitate a transition to Zoom, participants will be given the opportunity to withdraw from the course, with registration costs refunded.

Classes offered on Zoom: Plant Based Nutrition; Social Robots for Brain Health (free class); Introduction to Regional Districts; Artists in the Studio; The Annual Clifford Smith Memorial Lecture with Dr. Daniel Heath Justice: Stories as Good Relations: Imagining Together (and Apart) in Incurious Times (free).

Classes offered in-person: Geology of Thormanby Island (includes additional cost for a field trip); Capture Memories on Your iPhone; Preliminary Announcement: Welcome to our Swiya (free series); Hot Topics; Adventures in Travel; Ecology of the Salish Sea; Shakespeare – Contemporaries and Conspiracies; Solar Energy; Do Not Fall for Fraud; The Secret World of the Microscope.

SC ElderCollege is a non-profit society funded solely by course fees and operated by volunteers, including its expert presenters. The society receives no grants or donations and operates on a break-even basis. It is grateful to the Sunshine Coast Credit Union for its continuing sponsorship of the annual, free Clifford Smith Memorial Lecture which is open to the entire community and all age groups.

Courses are $35; as noted, some are free. Registration is through the ElderCollege web page via PayPal, either with a credit card or a PayPal account. You must pre-register. There are class size limits.
