Anne Quinn

Sid Quinn, Anne Quinn and Dave Quinn at an honouring ceremony for Anne Quinn held July 1. The respected elder was presented with a killer whale carving. “?iy t’e titiwshamstumulh (you taught us well),” said her son Sid.

On July 1, a red cedar carving of four killer whales (stalashen) by James and Jim Yelton was commissioned by Sid Quinn “skenaw” and unveiled in honour of his mother, shíshálh Nation elder Anne Quinn “sempatkwa.”

The killer whales represent strength, power, grace, beauty and family in the shíshálh First Nation culture. Anne Quinn continues to teach and pass on cultural practices and traditions with love and passion that makes her family very thankful and proud of her.

A special thank you to friends, family and local businesses that helped with the traditional honouring ceremony.
