Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week and enjoyed some cooler nights and some very welcome precipitation. At the time of writing this, there is rain in the forecast with normal seasonal temperatures ahead. Perfect time to go outside and get some exercise!

The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary recently delivered cupcakes to the volunteer firefighters of Halfmoon Bay in appreciation of their commitment and dedication to the community. The firefighters were called out twice in the last couple of weeks to extinguish roadside fires in the area. Their quick response and firefighting skills prevented the fires from getting out of control. These amazing volunteers meet every Wednesday to train so they are ready for any situation. The volunteers are very much appreciated and the entire community feels that much safer knowing that help is out there should we ever need it. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!

The Coasters Car Club will be participating in their annual Sleepy Hollow cruise along Redrooffs Road in Halfmoon Bay the evening of Friday, Aug. 6. This won’t be the usual Rod Run as in previous years so the amount of entries will be smaller and not require road closures or police escort. President Ken Begg said, “The event was planned to show appreciation for the community’s efforts to stay strong through the COVID-19 pandemic.” He looks forward to seeing the usual groups of spectators along the roadside, safely watching the classic cars cruise by. It is heartwarming to see all the families, friends and neighbours gathering to cheer, clap and wave. The cars will leave Sechelt at approximately 6:30 p.m., travel along Highway 101, enter at the south end of Redrooffs and continue along to the fire hall. It is suggested to be at your vantage point early so you don’t miss any of the action. The club is planning a special 25th Anniversary Sleepy Hollow Rod Run in August 2022. Thank-you to the Coasters Car Club and all those participating for bringing a little joy and tradition to our community.

Speaking of Redrooffs, the community is saddened again about the loss of two deer in one week, which were struck by vehicles. A doe has lost her baby and two fawns are now without their momma. Those at the scene of these terrible losses are heartbroken and angered by motorists driving too fast especially in areas where signs are posted to slow down. The speed limit is 50 km/h but that may be too fast for areas where deer frequently cross the road. Residents and the community are pleading with those that travel along Redrooffs to use extra care and attention and please slow down!

Be safe, be gentle and always be kind.
