Creek Daze is us! Myself and the RCCA want to send a huge pre-emptive shout-out to our new community organizers, without whom this year’s Daze would be lost. Artine Tony Brown and his partner Elin Jonsson have certainly earned a place in our hearts.

Now, what’s happening? On Sunday, Aug. 22, from the school on down, the Higgledy Piggledy parade starts at 11:11, staging at 10:30.

The Slow Sundays Stage will entertain from noon till 6. Michelle Morand will be performing solo on guitar and vocal; after that it’s The Locals (singer-songwriter-guitarist Robin Atchison with harmonica player Nelson Giles), Carlos Salinas (singer-songwriter-guitarist from Mexico City), The del Maestros (Royce and Steve del Maestro), The Van Aldens (Bud Kurz, Jon van Arsdell, Graham Walker, Steve Schwabl), and Eddy Edrik, accomplished singer-guitarist from London (the one in England, you know; only Canadians say London, England).

Following the music will be Dyana Bartkow and the Keia Papa Kaua Hula Dancers. To finish the day at the Slow Sundays Stage is a yoga session and sound bath led by Lesley Horat.

The Library will have their book bins out from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. – buy a book and get your read on! First aid station is at the Gen – your local RCVFD first responders will be on duty, talk to them about joining the team!

Welcomers at the top of the hill will keep traffic from rolling down after 10:30 a.m. At bridge level you will find our local vendors of goods as well as food to fortify yourself. Next, it’s the Heart Centre, an oasis in the trees to engage young minds.

Finally, you find the Mandala Stage, featuring Tetrahedron, Quean of the Green, Topher Trick, I Like Your Weird, Jeevious Family, Dally Man, Skronky & Friends and DJ Aerion. Sweet live music, 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Can’t wait!

Rising from the (figurative) ashes of the woodworking school behind the café and from a huge (literal) sense of community, the Bear Heart Wellness & Creative Arts Centre is now open. Headed up by local healer and jeweller Biyaals (Bye-Else), the centre offers multi-use areas for artists, events and healing practitioners in a beautifully finished space. Biyaals herself offers light therapy (and other healing arts), alongside Patty Miller (teaching Hawaiian healing arts) and displays her jewelry with that of Jessica Jolicoeur. The walls are lined with large-scale paintings that bring a calm to the main room. There is one practitioner room available, the art changes every three months and the space is available for weekend events. For more on how you can get involved, email bearheart33@protonmail.com.

Friday night at our little Legion, The Locals take to the outdoor stage and Saturday Aug 21, it’s Muffdusters/Campfire Shitkickers’ turn. All shows start at 4 and wrap up by 9. This weekend’s events are members $5, guests of members $10. Next weekend, Vancouver’s talented Stone Poets bring their brand of rock to our shore, Saturday, Aug. 28. Members $10, guests of members $20. Tickets for all shows available at rclegionevents.com.
