Community Futures is ramping up supports

With spring on the horizon and a sense of hope for a return to pre-pandemic normalcy, the local Community Futures office is working with community partners and local businesses on the lower Sunshine Coast and Bowen Island, providing a variety of different services to people wanting to start, expand, franchise or sell a business in the community.

New staff have joined the organization bringing a wealth of skills and experience as well as abundant enthusiasm for our coastal communities. Ryley Iverson brings eight plus years of business consulting in the tech sector, as well as lived experience as an entrepreneur to the role of business advisor. Additionally, Amy Durkee, with her background in government service and private accounting, brings a depth of knowledge and expertise to the role as the loans and office coordinator.  They both join executive director Morgan Beall.

The Sunshine Coast CF office was a leader in the province in securing federal RRRF (Regional Relief and Recovery Fund) loans for local businesses during the early days of the pandemic. As those loans come to maturity staff are available to assist in transitioning to other funding or closing out loans as necessary.

SCREDO (Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Organization) has also joined forces with Community Futures and the FUSE work hub at the Wharf Street location, creating a unique network of opportunities for local entrepreneurs to thrive.

Recruitment for the Community Futures volunteer board of directors will begin in March ahead of the Annual General Meeting in June. If you are interested in contributing your expertise to help govern and advise Community Futures, visit https://communityfutures.org/ to learn more about the organization and contact Amy at [email protected] for more information on this opportunity.
