Coaster wins prestigious journalism scholarship

Bridget Stringer-Holden has won the prestigious CBC Joan Donaldson News Scholarship.

Bridget Stringer-Holden is one of 11 journalism students across Canada nominated and subsequently selected for the prestigious CBC Joan Donaldson News Scholarship, established in recognition of the founder of CBC Newsworld. It is considered one of the highest awards in Canadian student journalism and includes four months working with national CBC bureaus. 

Growing up in Gibsons, Bridget attended École du Pacifique and Chatelech Secondary School. She went on to pursue her bachelor of communications with a minor in business administration from Capilano University, where she graduated as Valedictorian and achieved the Dean’s Award of Excellence.  

She will be graduating with her Master of Journalism from UBC in April. During her time at UBC, she was vice president of the School of Journalism Student Association, assisted with research into digital news engagement, and was awarded the Vancouver Sun David Baines award and the Joseph Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship for her research into the Sunshine Coast’s water shortage.
