Local riders David English, Nick Wort and Kim Wilson will be participating in the Ride2Survive on June 20.
Ride2Survive is an all-volunteer group who believe and have seen that they can do something as a community to make a difference. The chosen pursuit is to raise funds for cancer research through an epic cycling event – 400 km in one day over two mountain passes, climbing 12,000 feet from Kelowna to Delta.
The Ride2Survive team puts on this event at their own expense to ensure that 100 per cent of donations raised goes to cancer research areas. Rich Gestle, rider and survivor, said: “It’s supposed to represent a day of suffering a cancer patient would go through.”
The ride begins in Kelowna at 3:30 a.m. The first leg of the ride is from Kelowna to Merritt. The team of 100 riders starts together, rides together and crosses the finish together. They work together through the physical and emotional elements of the ride.
This 100 per cent volunteer ride is in its 11th year and has raised more than $3 million for cancer research and prevention. This is David’s third year participating in the ride, Nick’s second and Kim’s first. On the day of the ride, there will be live stream and updates.
