Coast getting share of hospice funding

Provincial Funds

The province has announced more than $1 million in funding to improve hospice care on the Sunshine Coast and in Squamish and Powell River.

The Sunshine Coast Hospice Society will get $200,000 toward two new hospice beds. Under Vancouver Coastal Health’s current plan for long-term care, the new hospice beds, as well as the existing beds, could be located at the Silverstone Care Centre in Sechelt.

The society will also be receiving an $8,000 grant from the BC Centre for Palliative Care and the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association to support patients and families through projects such as workshops educating the public about advance care planning, recruiting and training volunteers, and public awareness campaigns.
