Coast Car Co-op fundraiser exceeds expectations

Non-Profit
co-op
More than $3,800 was raised for Coast Car Co-op at the 101 Brewhouse & Distillery on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Almost 100 people filled the 101 Brewhouse & Distillery on Thursday, Jan. 25 for the Coast Car Co-op’s Burger and Beer Fundraiser Kickoff. The non-profit co-operative, which is managed by a volunteer board and one part-time employee, is launching a full year of fundraising activities aimed at eliminating the start-up debt that was incurred to launch the organization in 2013.

Last week’s Fundraising Kickoff event raised over $3,800 in proceeds, exceeding expectations of both the co-op’s board of directors and its newly formed fundraising committee. The event was created to address three key objectives: to raise funds for the co-op; to bring co-op members and community supporters together; and to raise awareness about the co-op’s mandate to provide affordable, environmentally responsible transportation to Sunshine Coast residents and visitors.

“We accomplished all three of our goals,” director Mark Cameron said of the event. “This evening was about building community and kick-starting our fundraising campaign – but the short-term financial boost will also go a long way to surviving the lean winter months, when vehicle usage is at its lowest point.”

Event co-ordinator and master of ceremonies Sam Adams added, “Now we need to build on this momentum as we strive to raise at least $30,000 this year – with a stretch goal of raising $120,000 to eliminate our entire debt.”
