Did you know if you have a valid driver’s licence, you are eligible to join the Coast Car Co-op? Started in 2014, the Sunshine Coast’s own car share program offers multi-purpose vehicles to members as a convenient, affordable, and sustainable alternative to traditional car ownership.
Whether for moving furniture or green waste, or for those times when a second car is needed for visiting family or conflicting work schedules, the Car Co-op helps Coasters get to where they need to go.
And, this month the fleet is expanding! On Feb. 26, co-op members will have access to a 2010 Ford Ranger with extended cab. The new vehicle – with jump seats for little ones – will be parked by the Roberts Creek Library. The white Ford Ranger currently in Roberts Creek will be move to Gibsons at the Co-op spots across from Shaw Rd. at Sunnycrest Mall.
Now with five vehicles in Sechelt, Roberts Creek and Gibsons, carsharing has never been easier. Several membership options provide climate friendly and economical alternatives to individuals, businesses, and organizations.
“The Coast Car Co-op is a not-for-profit cooperative, with profits reinvested to fund the co-op’s operations,” says board member Johan Stroman. “Adding a second truck to our fleet means members will have more options to choose the vehicle they need, where they need them. With our affordable pay-per-use rates, it’s a great time to join the Co-op!”
Coasters are invited to become co-op members, and support this sensible business model based on community, democracy, and stewardship.
