The Grade 4-5 class of École du Pacifique went on a class field trip to Victoria for three days and two nights at the beginning of June. Here is their report about their amazing experience:
We got up early, and we took two ferries to go to Nanaimo. Then we went to Chemainus where we saw many beautiful murals on the buildings’ walls across town. We arrived in Victoria at the end of the day, and we set up our “camp” in École Victor Brodeur’s gymnasium (another francophone school located in Esquimalt). We had pizza for dinner, and before going to sleep, we went to the pool: everyone went into the lazy river, and had lots of fun.
On the next day, after a good breakfast, we went on a guided tour of the parliament buildings and met our MLA from the Sunshine Coast, Nicholas Simons. On the parliament’s grounds, we saw the statue of Queen Victoria. To our big surprise, we were allowed to climb on it, but not on the tree that was right beside it! Then, we went to the Bug Zoo and we held many bugs such as stick bugs and leaf bugs. After the Bug Zoo, we had sushi and sandwiches for lunch. And even a crow had a BLT sandwich that he stole from us when he was flying around our picnic tables. It was funny!
In the afternoon, we went to the BC Royal Museum to visit the First Nations gallery and the Modern History gallery. We highly recommend visiting the museum. The exhibits were so well done and we had so much fun that three hours was not enough. After the museum, we walked downtown to find some souvenirs for everyone, such as necklaces, T-shirts or special candies from the Bug Zoo. Later on, we went to the IMAX theatre (the biggest screen in the province) and watched Amazon Adventure. After the movie, we concluded our day by eating at the Old Spaghetti Factory, all together like a big family.
We returned to the Coast the next day in the rain, and we arrived at Langdale at 4:30 p.m., with hundreds of other students from different schools on the Coast who were also coming back from an outing.
Our trip to Victoria was a great experience for all of us, and we are thankful to our teacher Hervé Meyer who organized it, and to the parent volunteers who came along and drove us. We are also grateful to Claytons, Rona and Lehigh Hanson who provided some money to make it possible, as well as all the people who sponsored us through our fundraisers.
