The Chatelech Junior and Juvenile Girls Basketball teams held their second annual “Shoot-a-thon” fundraiser last week in honour of International Women’s Day.

Together the teams raised more than $3,500 for the Together Against Violence Program, which helps to support vulnerable women in the community.

At the event, the teams combined to shoot 1,005 shots, including 600 layups, 300 free throws and 100 three pointers. Five players hit half court shots to finish the event off – shout outs to Annabelle Autry, Makenzi Harris, Georgia Kitt, Inès Pontbriand-Traoré and Audrey Spithoff, who all made shots from half-court. Despite what has been a very different and often difficult school year and basketball season, the players have consistently demonstrated many of the values associated with International Women’s Day, including dignity, hope, collaboration, tenacity, appreciation, respect, and empathy.

Thanks are extended to all the players and to everyone who sponsored them for this event and supported the Together Against Violence Program by giving so generously.
