The Gibsons Public Library invites everyone to celebrate spring at Garden Fest on Saturday, April 14. The full day of events includes a seed-saving workshop and one-on-one consultations with master gardeners. Visitors are also invited to check out some of the gardening books that will be on display.
The seed-saving workshop (from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) will have a special focus on getting started in the spring. The workshop will explore the differences between a seed saving garden and a food garden. It will also cover the basic concepts for saving seeds and methods for harvesting, drying and cleaning seeds.
To launch the brand new Gibsons Seed-Sharing Library’s Healthy Beans, Healthy Planet project, participants will go home with a handout and a free packet of bean seeds.
The workshop instructor is Leonie Croy of the Sunshine Coast Seed Saving Collective. To register for this free event, call the library at 604-886-2130.
From 2 to 4 p.m., master gardeners Pat Kolterman and Mary-Catharine Anderson will answer all your gardening questions. Members of the Seed-Saving Collective will also be there to help you with your budding plans.
