International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated March 8 every year and is globally recognized as a day of celebration of women's achievements politically, economically and socially.

It is an official holiday in some countries, but not in Canada. Since 1977 Canada has proclaimed March 8 as IWD.

Locally, IWD will be celebrated through the work of the Sunshine Coast Labour Council's pot luck dinner.

On Monday night, at 5 p.m. at the Roberts Creek Hall, IWD will be celebrated with speeches and wonderful entertainment. This event is free and open to all. Thanks to CEP 1119 we will have roses and the local bakeries and grocers will supply us with bread. As we have adopted the women's anthem Bread & Roses which is sung with great emotion at this event, all the women are encouraged to take home a rose.

This event is always a fundraiser with lots of door prizes, raffles and pure donations to the charity chosen each year. This year the Arrowhead Society will be the beneficiary of any funds raised. The community is invited to attend this very interesting and enjoyable celebration of women.
