Celebrate Healthy Kids Day

On June 4, YMCA Camp Elphinstone is hosting its third annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day together with YMCAs across Canada.

Designed to help kids and families embrace healthy habits that can become a lifelong practice, this free community event will focus on fun and engaging activities and simple ways to be healthier in spirit, mind and body.

The recent release of the Active Healthy Kids, Canada's 2011 Report Card shows that only seven per cent of Canadian youth and children meet the new Canadian physical activity guidelines. These guidelines measure participation in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity per day.

"Our children's health is very important to us. Our aim is to show families, children and youth that making healthy choices can be fun," said Pam Chater, Camp Director, YMCA Camp Elphinstone.

Although the YMCA models and incorporates healthy practices into its programs and activities for children and youth year round, YMCA Healthy Kids Day is an opportunity for families to explore healthy living habits that will make a difference throughout their lives.

The staff team at YMCA Camp Elphinstone (1760 YMCA Rd. in Langdale) invite you to get out and get active on June 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come and experience the free open house and Healthy Kids Day event, rain or shine. You will have the opportunity to go boating, meet the local fire department, play active games, eat a free healthy lunch, try our ropes course and more.
